A meeting of the Franklin County Republican Central Committee will be held on Thursday, January 13, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Athletic Club of Columbus, 136 E. Broad Street, and will be preceded by a social half-hour at 5:30 p.m.

The Franklin County Republican Party Administrative, Judicial, and Legislative Screening Committees will hold their first meetings on the evening of Tuesday, January 11, to screen candidates seeking endorsement for offices on the ballot in 2011. For more information, please call (614) 224-3939.

Dublin's own Angel Rhodes needs volunteers to assist her campaign for the Ohio Assembly. This is an opportunity to show our support for Republican candidates as we move into the final critical days of the campaigns!



Volunteers are needed to staff the Angel Rhodes campaign tent during the Dublin Irish Festival at Coffman Park. Angel will have a tent set up at the entrance to the festival at the corner of Tara Hill Drive and Downpatrick.   Volunteers are needed to greet attendees, hand out campaign literature and encourage voter support. Angel and her staff will be in attendance as well.

According to Recovery.Gov, Ohio has received $7.528 billion and created (or saved) 23,072 jobs. I drilled down on the State of Ohio and started clicking on the blue dots that represent recipients of grant money (92% of the total dollars). They are all government entities!

Do any journalists read these things? Have you heard of www.recovery.gov? Have you considered spending any time researching what's going on with all of this money? Is $326,287 per job created an acceptable cost to you when you know that it is not sustainable and won't be paid back? Hello? Anybody out there?

New taxes and penalties as a result of President Obama's health care plan. Viewing the health care reform package from the context of the Tax Code, many new taxes and penalties stand out immediately above the rest. Here are a few highlights:

Individuals who earn more than $200,000 for the year ($250,000 for married couples) will be paying an additional 0.9 percent in Hospital Insurance (Medicare) tax, starting in 2013;
Individuals whose adjusted gross income for the year exceeds $200,000 ($250,000 for joint filers), whether from wages or otherwise, will also be paying an additional 3.8 percent Medicare tax on net investment income, starting in 2013;
Employers with 50 or more employees generally will be required to provide a minimum level of health insurance for their employees or pay a penalty per employee, starting in 2014;
Small employers with no more than 25 employees are entitled to up to a 35 percent tax credit on the cost of providing health insurance for employees, starting immediately in 2010;
Most individuals will be required to obtain health insurance or be subject to a penalty tax starting in 2014;
Tax credits to subsidize the cost of health insurance premiums will be available to individuals earning up to 400 percent of the poverty level, starting in 2014;
Health flexible savings arrangement (FSA) dollars will be limited to prescription medications with some exceptions after 2010, along with placing a $2,500 annual cap on expenses covered under health FSAs, starting in 2013;
A 40 percent excise tax will be imposed on high-cost, "Cadillac" employer-sponsored health coverage, starting in 2018;
Fees will be imposed on the pharmaceutical industry and health insurance providers , starting in 2011 and 2014, respectively;
An excise tax will be imposed on medical device manufacturers after 2012; and
Limits on tax-subsidized medical expenses will be imposed by raising the itemized medical expense deduction floor for regular tax purposes from 7.5 percent to 10 percent, generally starting in 2013.
Note it is anticipated that health insurance costs will increase by at least 1% due to parents having the ability to cover adult children up to age 27.

The Worthington and Dublin Republican Clubs are hosting a "Meet the Candidates" night for candidates running for the Republican Party State Committee. Our meeting will be on April 22nd at 7 p.m. at the Worthington Municipal Building, 6550 N. High Street, Worthington Ohio.

The State Committee serves as the board of directors for the Ohio Republican Party so they have a tremendous amount of influence over who runs for which statewide offices and who receives the party endorsements. If you want to understand some of the inner workings of the Ohio Republican Party, this might be THE meeting to attend this year. Several candidates looking to represent Central Ohio Republicans in the state party apparatus will be in attendance and are eager to field questions from rank and file Republicans like you. Why did Franklin County Treasurer, Democrat Edward Leonard, move the jobs associated with processing Franklin County real estate tax payments outside the county? Could he not have found a bank with a lockbox system in Franklin County rather than in Cincinnati? Those individuals employed by the bank who do this work will not be paying taxes (employment, real estate, etc.) to Franklin County.

Think locally: It may be your neighbor who loses his or her job, or house, or spouse due to this kind of action and it will undoubtedly have an impact on you too.

236 Year Anniversary - The Boston Tea Party - December 16th

In Boston, the arrival of three tea ships ignited a furious reaction. The crisis came to a head on December 16, 1773 when as many as 7,000 agitated locals milled about the wharf where the ships were docked. A mass meeting at the Old South Meeting House that morning resolved that the tea ships should leave the harbor without payment of any duty.The Collector of Customs refused to allow the ships to leave without payment of the duty. Stalemate. The committee reported back to the mass meeting and a howl erupted from the meeting hall. It was now early evening and a group of about 200 men, some disguised as Indians, assembled on a near-by hill. Whopping war chants, the crowd marched two-by-two to the wharf, descended upon the three ships and dumped their offending cargos of tea into the harbor waters.
